The former AS Roma starlet was in his element as he missed a penalty, scored, and provided an assist to power the home side to a comprehensive win on Saturday evening
Umar Sadiq was yet again the difference-maker as Almeria handed Lugo a crushing 4-1 defeat in a Segunda Division week 27 clash at the Estadio Mediterraneo.
The Super Eagles hopeful scored Almeria’s first and supplied the assist to the home side’s last goal to lead the La Liga hopefuls to their 11th league win of an excellent campaign.
Sadiq opened the scoring for Jose Gomes’ side in the 11th-minute, reacting quickly to smash home after his penalty kick was saved by Ander Cantero in the visitors’ goal.
Manu Barreiro drew Lugo level from the penalty spot just before halftime to leave the tie delicately balanced for the second period.
But Almeria seized control of the encounter after the interval with a Jose Carlos Lazo effort and a brace from substitute Jose Corpas, the last of which came off a Sadiq assist.
The five million euros buy from Serbia’s Partizan Belgrade has now registered 13 goals and five assists in just 24 league matches in his debut season in Spain.
Adding that to the two goals he has notched in the Copa del Rey, and the six he struck in the Serbian Super Liga before signing for Almeria makes Sadiq one of the most prolific Nigerian attackers in Europe this season.
