Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare scored for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their 3-1 loss to Chelsea at Molineux, Soccernet.ng reports.

Relegation candidates Wolves welcomed Chelsea to Molineux in their 25th game of the Premier League campaign.

Wolves have been rooted to the bottom of the Premier League for the entire season, garnering just eight points from their previous 24 games, and they were serious underdogs heading into the fixture against the Blues.

Nigerian striker Arokodare has been the main man for the club since they sold Jørgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace in January, and he maintained his place as the starting number nine.

Wolves started the game strongly, but their shambolic defense — which has been their bane all season — cost them.

Matt Doherty and Yerson Mosquera conceded two penalties in the opening 35 minutes. Cole Palmer took charge of the responsibility and converted both with a flourish to give the Blues a 2-0 lead.

Then, in the 38th minute, the Englishman struck again, firing a square ball from Marc Cucurella into the roof of the net.

Arokodare put in a lot of work in the first half, chasing down loose balls in the final third, but he found little joy.

In the second half, however, he saw more of the ball as Wolves grew into the game. He eventually scored in the 54th minute following a brilliant attacking sequence by his side.

The former Genk man pounced on a rebound off a corner, held off his marker, and fired the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

However, that was the only clear chance he could muster. Late in the game, he had a half-chance when he was played through on goal, but his low shot was blocked by Trevoh Chalobah, who had marshaled him well throughout.

The game eventually ended 3-1 in Chelsea’s favor. That loss further condemns Wolves toward relegation. In fact, it seems like only a matter of time before their drop is confirmed.

Tolu Arokodare's goal against Chelsea was his second of the Premier League campaign for Wolves.

For him, it is no longer about scoring goals to help his team anymore, the rest of rhe campaign is an audition. With Wolves almost sure of relegation, he has to perform at a high level, if he does not want to play Championship football next season.
