In what was a battle between two Nigerians, Alex Iwobi’s Everton maintained their perfect start to the season courtesy of a win over Eberechi Eze’s Crystal Palace.
Eze finally made his first Premier League start for Crystal Palace, but he could not prevent Everton from taking the maximum points.
Eze, a summer signing from QPR, had been a substitute in the Eagles first two league games of the season. But he was handed a start by Roy Hodgson in the clash against the Toffees.
Meanwhile, Iwobi, who scored in Everton’s win over Fleetwood Town on Wednesday, was brought on four minutes from time in the encounter.
Dominic Calvert Lewin continued his brilliant run of form as he opened the scoring for Everton in the tenth minute before Cheikhou Kouyate’s header in the 26th minute levelled scores for Palace.
However, it was Everton who retook the lead five minutes from the break courtesy of a penalty from Richarlison after a ball hit Joel Ward on his arm in the box.
Palace tried to find a way back into the game after the restart, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men stayed solid to make it three wins from three in the league this season.
