The Super Eagles star made his first start of the new season as Everton secured their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a win over Fleetwood Town

Alex Iwobi replied his critics with a man of the match performance in Everton’s victory over League One side, Fleetwood Town.

The Nigerian’s future at Goodison Park has been a subject of debate due to the increased competition in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

However, in what was his first start after missing Everton’s opening two games of the season, Iwobi showed he still has a lot to offer in the Toffees squad.

Richarlison opened the scoring for Everton at Highbury in the 22nd minute, finishing off a brilliant ball from Bernard.

The Brazilian then doubled Everton’s advantage 12 minutes later following an outrageous backheel from Iwobi. Mark Duffy pulled one back for Fleetwood three minutes after the break.

However, Iwobi restored Everton’s two-goal lead immediately, firing home from an Anthony Gordon cutback.

Callum Camps scored Fleetwood’s second to raise hopes of a possible comeback, but goals from Bernard and Moise Kean secured a comfortable win for Everton.
