Former Juventus and AC Milan striker Christian Vieri has weighed in on the future of Victor Osimhen, stating that it would not be a wrong decision if the Nigerian striker decides to stay at Napoli despite interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen, who has attracted attention from Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, played a pivotal role in Napoli’s triumph in Serie A, securing their first Scudetto title since 1990 with his 23 goals.
Vieri acknowledged that Osimhen, presently battling flu, may want to explore other leagues and win more honours.
“If he (Osimhen) feels good in Naples, he’s right to stay, but if he wants to try other stadiums and other shirts, he’s right to go,” Christian Vieri said, as per Tutto Napoli.
Vieri is particularly impressed with how good Osimhen has become. The former Inter Milan forward emphasized the importance of the striker’s connection with his teammates and his dedication to the team’s playstyle.
According to Vieri, Osimhen’s impact goes beyond scoring goals; he actively contributes to the team’s gameplay by involving his teammates and improving his overall play.
This versatility sets him apart and puts him in contention to be considered among the top forwards in the game.
“He’s a hard worker, he plays for the team, and it’s important because he connects the game with his teammates,” Vieri added.
“You don’t just play long balls with him, and he’s improved a lot in this. Many forwards just score goals, but if you want to be considered top 3, you have to play with your teammates.”
Furthermore, Osimhen’s accomplishments have already made him the most prolific African player to have graced the Italian top flight, surpassing the legendary George Weah.
If he maintains his current form and goal-scoring prowess, Osimhen is also on track to become the first African to win the top scorer award in Serie A. He is currently leading the charts ahead of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
