Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq scored the only goal in Valencia's 1-0 win over Elche, six minutes after coming off the bench in his return from injury.
Sadiq replaced Pablo Maffeo in the 61st minute and scored soon after, according to Complete Sports. He had been out for about two months.
It was Valencia's first win since Javier Aguirre took charge in September. Sadiq now has two goals in four La Liga appearances this season.
Aguirre's reaction
Aguirre told the club's website it was a joy for everyone and that the win felt good. He added that Elche had chances of their own.
Looking ahead, the coach said his players did not need extra motivation for the next league game, against Real Madrid on 7 November.
Analysis: A scorer's return helps Valencia and the Super Eagles
For Valencia, a first win under Aguirre arrived the moment a forward came back from injury. That is a simple link, but it matters for a side that needs goals.
For Nigeria, Chelle's striker options are a live question before the Tanzania games, as Soccernet has examined with George Ilenikhena and the options behind Osimhen. Sadiq's goal does not decide the squad, but a fit striker scoring in La Liga adds to that discussion, and Nigeria need six points from Tanzania to keep the group's only live place in their own hands.
His next test is Real Madrid, where one more goal would show the Elche finish was no one-off.
