Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has received an encouraging assessment from AC Milan great Mauro Tassotti.
Tassitti, 66, believes the Nigeria international has shown enough promise in an unfamiliar role despite some defensive issues during the opening weeks of Rúben Amorim’s reign.
Tassotti was speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport in a wide-ranging interview, as Milan prepare to return to Serie A action against Sassuolo after the international break.
Asked about Amorim’s use of his wide players, Tassotti singled out Chukwueze, who has been transformed from an attack-minded winger into a player expected to cover the entire right flank.

What Tassotti said about Chukwueze
“Chukwueze is the first year that he moves up and down the whole flank,” Tassotti, who won five Serie A titles with Milan said, per Milanpress.
“I’ve seen him do some good things, and others less so, with Milan finding themselves unbalanced in some dangerous situations.”
Chukwueze proving he can handle Amorim’s demanding role
Amorim retained Chukwueze after his return from a loan spell at Fulham and quickly identified the Nigerian as an option on the right side of his 3-4-2-1 system.

Rather than placing the 27-year-old behind the striker or stationed out wide on the flank, Amorim has used him as his first-choice right wing-back. With that new role comes the demand that the Super Eagles star combines his natural acceleration and one-on-one ability with the discipline required to track runners and protect Milan’s defensive structure.
It is a responsibility that Chukwueze, one of Nigeria's most valuable players, has embraced completely. The former Fulham loanee has played five Serie A matches in 2026/27, starting four and accumulating 386 minutes. He has supplied two assists and has also appeared once in the Europa League, playing the full 90 minutes against Benfica.
Milan currently sit fifth on the Serie A table with 11 points after five games. Amorim's men are one of only four teams yet to taste defeat this term, the others being Roma, Inter Milan and Lazio.
Milan's next game is a visit to Sassuolo on Sunday, a match Chukwueze would be eager to start having returned early to San Siro after the international break.
