Future Super Eagles star eyes Club Brugge breakthrough – “I’ve been at Bayern for 4 years”

Wisdom Mike has made a clear-eyed decision about the next chapter of his career after leaving Bayern Munich for Club Brugge, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian winger is determined to turn his €5 million move into a first-team breakthrough in Belgium.

The 18-year-old joined Club Brugge after four years in Bayern's system, arriving in Munich from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2022. Bayern confirmed that Mike had made five appearances for the senior side, including his professional debut two days after his 17th birthday.

Mike keen on Club Brugge step up

Mike says the move was not about escaping Bayern but finding the environment where he can play, learn and accelerate his development.

“It feels good, I had already been at Bayern Munich for four years and I felt this was the right moment to start something new. A new challenge, a new life, I am ready for it,” Mike said through Club Brugge's official channels.

The teenager has already experienced the Champions League spotlight, playing nine minutes against Club Brugge in Bayern's 4-0 victory at the Allianz Arena last season. He also accumulated 27 minutes in the Bundesliga.

That Champions League meeting offered Mike a glimpse of the club he would eventually join.

“The way they played and everything during that match was very good. They have a young team and I am a young player myself. I think it makes sense that I came here.”

Mike has yet to appear for Club Brugge's senior team, instead playing two 45-minute spells for Club NXT in the Challenger Pro League as he adjusts to his new surroundings.

“I really like it here; I talk to a lot of players. They are trying to show me the ropes and show me everything. Belgium is a nice country to live in. It is somewhat comparable to Germany.”

The left winger is also refusing to let his Bayern pedigree become a burden.

“I am still a young player. I am still trying to learn new things, because here in Bruges there are many players who have more experience than me. I try to adapt and learn a lot from them,” he said.

Club Brugge paid Bayern €5 million for Mike, while reports also indicate Bayern secured additional protections around the transfer.

Mike has represented Germany from U15 to U17 level, but he holds Nigerian citizenship and remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
