“Reminiscent of Diomande” – Daniel Job tipped to shine at FC Dallas after record-breaking transfer

Nigerian attacker Daniel Job has completed a transfer to US club FC Dallas in a deal worth €4.5 million, Soccernet.ng reports.

​The 21-year-old was the subject of a lot of transfer talk in the summer transfer window. Clubs like West Ham and Feyenoord were reportedly interested in acquiring his services, and it was not surprising.

​Job was one of the brightest young players in the Norwegian second tier, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 19 league appearances.

Eventually, it was FC Dallas who paid top dollar to acquire his services. They broke the OBOS-ligaen record, tying down the player to a four-year deal.

​For Job, this is a major step in his career. His first taste of top-flight football was at Sarpsborg, but Major League Soccer presents a major opportunity for him, and he will be looking to take it with both hands.

​How Does Daniel Job Adapt to MLS?

​According to Ben Griffis, a US-based football analyst who uses data to assess players mainly based in Scandinavia, this move to MLS is a good one for Job, as his qualities match the demands of the American top flight.

He, however, noted that there is a possibility that the young Nigerian might be used as a wing-back, since Dallas operates in a 3-5-2 formation under coach Eric Quill.

​”MLS is the perfect style of league to not only develop Job, but the style that he thrives in,” Griffis told Soccernet.ng.

​”It’s a physical league, which is where he probably needs the most experience, but it’s also very transitional and attack-minded, which fits who he is as a player.

​”There’s lots of space to exploit in MLS, along with higher-quality opponents that should suit him well. Increasingly, top European leagues are scouting and buying promising players from MLS.

​”It’s now one of the better developmental leagues in the world, especially for attackers. The only reservation is that FC Dallas has not been playing with traditional wingers, but lone wing-backs. Unless they change formations for him, Job may need to play as a wing-back. This could work if he has ample defensive support from the left center-back and midfield, but it’s a question mark for now.”

​Why Job Is One to Look Out For

​When asked which prominent player Job currently plays like, Griffis said it is Real Madrid star Yan Diomande.

​”Job’s explosiveness on the dribble, ability to cut in or dribble towards the line, and either create with crosses or finish himself, is reminiscent of Diomande,” he said.

​He also added that the Nigerian is a top investment for FC Dallas, as they could potentially sell him for a substantial fee in a few years.

​”I think it might be fair to say signing Job for €4.5 million was a steal,” Griffis added.

​”Because if Job were playing in the top tier of Norway, Sweden, or Denmark, he would probably fetch €15 million, or at least €10 million. I would have expected somewhere around €5 million (closer to 3–4) given the league he was in.

​”This is similar to Gift Orban’s situation moving from Stabæk in the second tier of Norway to Gent; Orban went to Lyon for nearly €15 million the next year.”

​FC Dallas played on Sunday morning, but Job was not in the matchday squad. Nonetheless, he is expected to make his debut for the club soon.

​The young attacker is yet to play for Nigeria, but he is one player whom the Super Eagles' coaching staff should keep their eyes on.
