Super Eagles transfer: Wrexham join Hull, Brighton in race for Nigeria’s Unity Cup star

Wrexham have joined Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion in the race for Millwall winger Femi Azeez as the summer transfer window enters its final week, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sports Illustrated reports that Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson has confirmed the club wants to add another creative player before the deadline. The report also says Wrexham have an interest in Azeez, who has attracted attention after an excellent 2025-26 Championship season.

The 25-year-old Nigeria international scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in the Championship last season. His form helped Millwall finish third before Hull City eliminated them in the play-off semi-finals. Azeez also broke into the Super Eagles squad and scored twice in Nigeria's 2-0 Unity Cup semi-final win over Zimbabwe. He then assisted in the final against Jamaica.

Azeez started Millwall's first two league matches of the new season. However, his second appearance lasted only 30 minutes against Bristol City on August 15 before a Grade 1B hamstring strain forced him off. Manager Alex Neil described the injury as minor and ruled him out against Norwich City. A return against Southampton is now the target.

Azeez: Wrexham face a crowded transfer race

Wrexham's interest adds another twist to a transfer battle that already includes two clubs with strong reasons to pursue Azeez.

Hull City have been linked with the winger for several weeks and were reported to be leading the race earlier in August, although an official bid had not been made at this stage.

Brighton entered the picture after making Azeez one of their winger options. The Premier League club could turn to him if Amario Cozier-Duberry leaves for Rangers.

Wrexham's interest is different. The Welsh club finished seventh in their first Championship season and have drawn both opening matches of the 2026-27 campaign against Cardiff City and Watford. They controlled long periods of those games but lacked the final touch to turn pressure into wins.

Williamson said Wrexham want “quality over quantity” and confirmed that the club is still seeking attacking additions before the September 1 deadline. The club has already signed Anthony Patterson, Danny Imray and Ben Whiteman this summer.

Azeez's contract with Millwall runs until June 2028, which gives the club a strong position in negotiations. Reports have placed his value between £15m and £30m.

Wrexham now have less than a week to decide if the Nigeria international is the attacking player who can help turn their possession into goals.
