Swedish club AIK may block Zadok Yohanna from linking up with Nigeria's Super Eagles for the upcoming Unity Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.
Yohanna is one of the 12 new invitees in Chelle's Unity Cup squad. But this situation is largely shaped by FIFA regulations regarding player release.
According to FIFA’s regulations, clubs are only obliged to release players for national team duties during designated international windows.
Matches played outside these periods are considered non-mandatory, which means that clubs have the discretion to refuse release without facing any sporting or disciplinary sanctions.
So with the Unity Cup scheduled outside this window, AIK are under no obligation to allow Yohanna travel.
This creates a delicate situation for both club and country, particularly given Yohanna’s growing influence in Sweden. The left-footed right winger has been one of AIK’s standout performers in the Allsvenskan this season, registering nine goal contributions in 12 appearances across all competitions while consistently driving the team’s offensive play.

His performances have not only earned him recognition at international level but have also attracted interest from top European sides, with clubs such as Real Madrid, Chelsea, Ajax, as well as German outfits Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, all reportedly monitoring the development of the highly-rated youngster.
Will AIK Allow Zadok Yohanna Join the Super Eagles?
AIK’s recruitment manager Miika Takkula spoke about Zadok Yohanna’s invitation to the Super Eagles. And he noted that the club would have to discuss the issue internally before decided if they will let him leave

“We have received the official invitation. Tomorrow we will go through it internally and then make a decision. We also have matches. We will go through it and then make a decision,” Takkula told Fotbollskanalen.
AIK’s current position in the league further explains their caution. With only eight matches played so far in the Allsvenskan season, the campaign is still in its early stages, a period where clubs are keen to accumulate as many points as possible while players are still fresh and in strong form.
The Stockholm-based side remain firmly in contention, making every available player important at this point.
Although Yohanna missed the last game due to a slight injury, he is expected to return soon. As such, they will be banking on him to play a key role in the coming fixtures.
Should Yohanna be released, he is expected to miss at least one league fixture — the clash against league leaders Sirius on May 30, which coincides with the final day of the Unity Cup.

While clubs often take pride in seeing their players represent their countries, the final decision in this case remains firmly with AIK. Coach Eric Chelle will hope that Yohanna is granted permission to join the squad, as he looks to integrate the in-form youngster into the Super Eagles squad.
