Tolu Arokodare's Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) have dismissed manager Vítor Pereira after a poor start to the Premier League season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Multiple reports have now linked former boss Gary O’Neil, surprisingly, of the candidates being considered to take charge of the team.

Pereira leaves Wolves at the bottom of the table after collecting just two points from their opening ten league matches, with a 3–0 defeat at Fulham proving the final blow.

His exit also ends the brief tenure of his coaching staff, as the club looks to reset following a disastrous start that has left them eight points adrift of safety.

The Portuguese tactician only signed a new three-year deal in September, but results and mounting fan frustration made his position untenable.

Gary O’Neil considered for shock return to Wolves

Reliable football journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Gary O’Neil—who was dismissed by Wolves last December—is among the names under consideration to take over at Molineux once again.

“Gary O’Neil is under consideration for a surprise return to Wolves. O’Neil was sacked last December but is still held in high regard by Wolves’ owners and is one option considered,” Jacobs shared on his X account.

O’Neil remains respected by the club's hierarchy after guiding Wolves to safety in the 2023/24 campaign before being replaced.

Other names being linked include established Premier League figures like Rob Edward, Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, though O’Neil’s familiarity with the squad could work in his favour.

Implications for Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare

The managerial change is a fresh start for Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare, who recently joined Wolves from Genk this season.

The 1.97-meter Super Eagles striker is seen as a long-term project, and a new manager may either hand him consistent playing time as he adapts to Premier League football or otherwise.

A rebuild under a manager who appreciates physical center forwards could play into his strengths, especially if O’Neil returns.
