Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has opened up about his struggles with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former Union Saint-Gilliose forward admitted that his time with the national team hasn’t gone as he had hoped.
The Nigerian forward, who was once hailed as one of the country’s brightest attacking prospects, confessed that he feels “unlucky” when it comes to converting his performances into goals for Nigeria.
Since breaking into the Super Eagles setup, Boniface has been viewed as a long-term solution to Nigeria’s attack, thanks to his club performance.
However, the goals have not come as expected, and the forward believes the lack of goals has unfairly shaped public perception of his impact.
Boniface On Super Eagles Luck
“I would just say… I’m just unlucky with the national team in terms of goalscoring,” Boniface explained. “I know there are a couple of games where I did good, but the scoring goal part is the most important thing in football today.”
“People do not watch football anymore, they only go to Livescore,” he said. “If you score, they think you are Robinho. They do not watch the games. I am sorry for those who think like that.”
“My biggest dream as a footballer was to represent my country, which I have achieved by myself, and I am grateful for it,” he stated. “If it did not go well, [it] does not mean I am a bad player. It did not go well with the national team, and God knows why, but like I said, I am happy I represented Nigeria, my country.”

Boniface’s Struggles in a Super Eagles Shirt
Boniface has made 13 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring one goal and registering one assist since his debut.
His most recent outing for Nigeria came in their 1-1 draw against Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium, where the Super Eagles’ only goals came from an own goal by Semi Ajayi and a Tolu Arokodare equalizer.
The Werder Bremen forward has often faced intense competition for a starting spot, with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Tolu Arokodare, Sadiq Umar, and a host of others also vying for places in Nigeria’s attack.
Difficult Start at Werder Bremen
At the club level, Boniface’s fortunes have not been much better in recent weeks. Since joining Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, the 24-year-old has failed to find the back of the net in seven appearances so far.
His only attacking contribution came in Bremen’s 4–0 away win against Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he provided an assist.
The coming weeks could be crucial for Boniface as he seeks to silence his critics, both at the club and international levels.
