South Africa's Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos remains optimistic about his team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their goalless draw against Zimbabwe on Friday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The result in Johannesburg meant Bafana Bafana slipped to second place in Group C with 15 points, two behind leaders Benin Republic, who defeated Rwanda 1-0, while Nigeria kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over Lesotho in Polokwane.

Speaking after the match, Broos admitted that the qualification picture remains complex heading into the final round of fixtures, but insisted that his team must stay focused on their own task.

What Bafana Bafana Boss Said After Zimbabwe Draw

“We have to play just like today and try to win the game,” Broos said. “Then try to see what happens if everything is as it has to be. Maybe Benin lose in Nigeria or maybe with goal difference. I don’t have a good view on that at the moment. But we just have to go for the victory against Rwanda and then see what happens.”

The Belgian tactician acknowledged that the draw with Zimbabwe was disappointing but stressed that South Africa still have their fate within reach if they can secure maximum points against Rwanda on the final matchday.

A win for South Africa against Rwanda could see them book their place at the 2026 World Cup, provided Benin lose to Nigeria in Uyo.

However, any slip-up from Bafana Bafana could see either Benin or Nigeria take advantage in what promises to be a thrilling end to Group C.
