Awoniyi has slipped out of favour at the City Ground, while Aina is sidelined until December following surgery on an injury picked up during the international break.

In Germany, Kevin Akpoguma was a late substitute as Hoffenheim were thrashed 4-1 at home by Bayern Munich.

By the time the Nigerian defender came on in the 83rd minute, Harry Kane had already completed his hat-trick, including two penalties, leaving Hoffenheim chasing shadows.

It was no better in Bremen. Felix Agu and Victor Boniface both featured in Werder Bremen’s 3-0 home loss to Freiburg.
