Wolves have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Belgian side Genk in a £24m deal, making him one of the club’s marquee additions of the summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old, who stands at 6ft 6in, arrives at Molineux on a four-year contract with an option for a further season.

Arokodare heads to England fresh from winning the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot, having struck 21 league goals and 23 in all competitions last season. It is the latest step in a career that has already spanned Latvia, Germany, France and Belgium.

Arokodare first caught attention in Europe at Valmiera, scoring 22 times in 34 appearances as a teenager. He later featured in the Bundesliga with Köln before two years on loan at Amiens, where he netted 21 goals in Ligue 2.

His switch to Genk in January 2023 quickly paid off, with the striker establishing himself as a key figure in their attack. Over two seasons, he registered more than 40 goals in all competitions, becoming one of the division’s most feared forwards.

Last term was his breakthrough year. While Genk fell short in the play-offs, Arokodare’s goals carried them close to the title. His away record earned him the Golden Boot on a tie-breaker.

The striker has also begun to make his mark for Nigeria, scoring his first international goal against Russia in June.

Speaking after sealing the move, Arokodare said Wolves had always been his preferred destination.

“It feels amazing. It did take a while, but I'm here finally, and I'm happy to be here. I didn't need convincing. I know the history of the club and the players that have been here and how they've progressed to become better players. I like the project of the club, and that's what I want for myself. I want to improve and I want to progress, and help this team.”

On adapting to English football, he added:

“I think I'll fit in pretty good. The Premier League is a league full of physicality, high intensity, a lot of runs, and I think I'm that kind of player. I think I'm strong, I'm fast. Obviously, the first few games and weeks won’t be the easiest, but it's a challenge that I think I'm ready for, and I think I'll fit in pretty good.”

The forward also reflected on winning last season’s Golden Boot.

“It wasn't easy, because there was very good competition. To be honest, and to give credit to the other guy, I was joint top scorer, but it was an amazing feeling. It felt like a well done, it was just a little bit sad that we didn't win the title, but it was also something to take home with me.”

Before leaving Belgium, Arokodare posted an emotional farewell message to Genk supporters.

“After two years with this club and amazing fans, it’s time for me to take the next step in my career. I want to take this opportunity to thank every single teammate, coach and supporter who has been with me on this journey and helped me while I’ve been here. The city of Genk has been nothing but good to me and it will always be a place that I’ll treasure for the special times I’ve had with you all.”

He added:

“I leave proud to have played for this badge and wish the club nothing but success in the future. Thank you for every moment in blue.”

Wolves supporters will hope his scoring touch continues in the Premier League, where his aerial strength and physicality could make him a unique threat.
