Samuel Chukwueze completed his loan transfer from AC Milan to Fulham on transfer deadline day….
Fulham coach Marco Silva has told Samuel Chukwueze that he has to prove that he is clearly better than the other players in his position if he wants to break into the starting eleven at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chukwueze joined the Cottagers from AC Milan on transfer deadline day, in a season-loan deal. The Super Eagles star had to make the move due to his lack of playing time in Italy.
In his two seasons there, Chukwueze's minutes were heavily limited, he was just seen as a squad player.
However, since making the switch to England, it hasn't looked like Chukwueze's situation will improve much.
Two weeks ago, he didn't make the matchday squad against Leeds United. A game he was fully available for.
Then, last weekend against Brentford at Craven Cottage, the Super Eagles star made the matchday squad. But he spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench.
Although it is just two games in, Chukwueze's situation has raised eyebrows, as it now seems that his minutes might still not increase, despite switching to Fulham.
Marco Silva's Firm Stance On Samuel Chukwueze, Other Fulham Signings
Next up for Fulham is an EFL Cup fixture against Cambridge United, and that would naturally have been an opportunity for players like Samuel Chukwueze, who have not played much to prove their mettle
However, Silva does not see it that way. He insists that he will field only his best legs against the League Two club, same as in other games.
“They (the players) have to wait and let's see what is going to be my decisions,” Silva said, per The Standard.
“I don't prepare these games to give just one or two players a chance. They have been involved, they have been more time with us already, and naturally they are going to have more minutes because that was the reason why we signed them.
“But as (with) all the other players, they have to prove their quality as well, and (prove) that they are ready to start games.”
Although Silva's comments are strong, he will likely give Chukwueze minutes, or even start him against Cambridge United.
However, the 26-year-old Super Eagles winger has to take any opportunity with both hands, as he has stiff competition from players like Kevin, Adama Traore, and Harry Wilson.
If he fails to perform, he might be set for a long spell on the bench at Fulham.
