Club Brugge 6-0 Rangers: Raphael Onyedika gives Eric Chelle potential headache as Belgian giants seal Champions League qualification

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika shone brightly as Club Brugge strolled to an easy 6-0 demolition of Rangers at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

It was a forgettable night in Belgium for the Gers, who were without their star man Cyriel Dessers for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

After the first leg in Glasgow ended 3-1 on Club Brugge's favour last week, Rangers were looking to stage a comeback.

However, it didn't as planned, as they fell behind after just five minutes, courtesy of a goal from Nicolo Tresoldi.

Then, just three minutes later, Max Aarons compounded Rangers' problems, as he got sent off.

That changed the entire complexion of the game, as Club Brugge started to dominate completely. They completely bamboozled the Gers, as they poured wave upon wave of attack.

By halftime, Brugge had already established a five-goal lead, with Hans Vanaken, Joaquin Seys (2) and Aleksandar Stankovic all scoring.

Then, in the second half, Chritos Tzolis added one to ensure it ended 6-0 on the night and 9-1 on aggregate to Club Brugge.

Although the result was embarrassing, it could have been way worse, as Club Brugge missed many opportunities and hit the woodwork twice.

How did Raphael Onyedika Perform?

Raphael Onyedika was one of the shining stars in the night, as he hardly made a mistake in the game. The Super Eagles star dominated the midfield. His touches were on point, he made the right passes, and just connected all the parts of the team.

Although he did not score, he grabbed one assist for himself on the night. Onyedika also had a 96% pass accuracy on 85 passes and won three of his five duels.

Headache For Eric Chelle

Raphael Onyedika has been shining at Club Brugge. And while this is a good thing, it also gives Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle a serious headache.

The Franco-Malian tactician has to decide whether to start him or Wilfred Ndidi when Nigeria play Rwanda and South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month.

Onyedika has been distinguishing himself at his club, but same cannot be said for Wilfred Ndidi, who just joined Besiktas from Leicester City.

Benching Ndidi for Onyedika would be a big call. But with what the latter has been showing at his club, Ndidi will not be missed.
