Tosin Adarabioyo: Chelsea star “considering” Super Eagles switch

Chelsea star Tosin Adarabioyo can play for England's Three Lions or the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but he is yet to choose

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has confirmed that he is yet to decide on whether to play for Nigeria or England at senior level, Soccernet.ng reports.

Adarabioyo has made steady progress since joining Chelsea from Fulham in a free transfer last year.

He has won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup with the Londoners, registering 41 appearances with five goals and one assist.

Is Adarabioyo Eligible to Play for the Super Eagles?

Adarabioyo has become an important player for Chelsea, and it seems he will remain at the club for a significant while.

However, while he seems to have figured it out at club level, Adarabioyo is yet to decide on the path to follow at national team level.

Born to Nigerian parents in London, Adarabioyo played for England at the youth level. But he can still switch to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, as he has not played for England's Three Lions yet.

Before joining Chelsea, the 27-year-old centre-back was never in serious consideration for a Three Lions call-up, as he had stints with Manchester City's youth team, Blackburn, and then Fulham, who were still trying to find their feet in the Premier League after just gaining promotion.

Now that he has improved at Chelsea, it is possible that an England call-up might come soon. But Nigeria also want him.

Adarabioyo is currently on holidays in Nigeria. He even visited Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Chelsea star also appeared in an interview on Wednesday. Adarabioyo reaffirmed that he is yet to decide on which country to play for, but there are some factors he is taking into consideration.

“It's something I think about seriously. But hopefully, in the nearest future I'll make a decision,” Adarabioyo said on Arise TV.

“It's something that has been the topic for many years since I've become a professional footballer, but then we'll see.

“Everything comes into consideration, you have to look at it and make the best decision.”

Will Chelsea's Tosin Adarabioyo play for Nigeria?

From the look of it, Tosin Adarabioyo is playing the waiting game. The Nigeria Football Federation contacted him years ago, but he is yet to pledge allegiance to the country.

Meanwhile, he has never been a frontrunner for an England call-up. But now that he has shone for Chelsea, there is a good chance he might get called up soon.

Recall that recently, Adarabioyo said that the 2026 World Cup would play a big part in his decision-making.

But surely, he would have to decide before next June. Realistically, England have a better shot at making the Mundial than Nigeria, so he is biding his time.

If Adarabioyo gets called up to the Three Lions soon, there is a high possibility that he will choose England over Nigeria.
