Super Falcons and Al-Ittihad women defender, Ashleigh Megan Plumptre, has revealed her ambitions to venture into coaching and player development after her career as an active footballer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The versatile 27-year-old full-back opted to don the green and white colours of Nigeria in 2022 after initially playing for England.

Since then, Plumptre has been one of the most consistent performers in the Nigerian female football team when fit.

While she's currently focused on winning the WAFCON 2024 tournament with Justin Madugu‘s side, the Al-Ittihad defender has revealed plans to venture into coaching as she just completed a UEFA-B license training course.

“I started to do my UEFA B License when I was in the UK, and I finished it relatively recently. I know I just want to be able to work in sports, in general, after this,” the left-back told Brila in an interview.

“I really like to work in Sports development. I've coached a U-12 team before, and I enjoy being around kids. For me, it's not just about football.

“It's about supporting them as young people who are growing and what sport can bring to kids in terms of their own self-belief, confidence, or lack of confidence.”

Additionally, the Leicester-born Super Falcon revealed her plans to put her coaching to the test with upcoming Nigerian youngsters is in the works.

“Sure, absolutely. Ultimately, I'm still trying to figure it out logistically. One of my goals is to come to Nigeria alongside Francisca [Ordega] and my club to try and host some sessions for young people in Nigeria.

“It's like where my family and her family are from. My family are in Lagos, but other than being in camp, I've never been outside of camp in Nigeria, so I want to be able to relate with young people in Lagos, create some sessions with them, and hopefully put my coaching license to the test,” Plumptre concluded.

Plumptre played all four games for Nigeria during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup as they were knocked out by England on penalties.

After the tournament, she confirmed she won't be continuing with Leicester as she put pen to paper with Saudi side, Al-Ittihad. She signed a two-year contract extension with the club back in February.
