Super Falcons and Al-Ittihad Ladies full-back, Ashleigh Megan Plumptre, has admitted there's still work to be done despite her side's 3-0 win over Tunisia in Casablanca yesterday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old previously represented England at youth level before switching allegiance to play for Nigeria, making her debut in February 2022.

Plumptre is now playing her second major competition in the green and white colours of Nigeria, although she missed the Paris 2024 Olympics due to an injury.

She scored a goal that was wrongly disallowed yesterday evening, but urged her teammates to use the win against Tunisia as a motivation to secure victory in the remaining games.

“I feel very happy. It's the first game of the tournament, so there were lots of nerves and excitement going into the first game, but to come out with three goals and a clean sheet is a nice way to start the tournament.

“We'll take this as a good stepping stone into the next game. We'll see how to work on what we did well and what we need to improve on going into the next game, because I think attacking-wise and defensively.

We could've been a little bit better by our standards, but we're happy with three points,” the former Leicester City defender said in an interview with Victor Ademola.

Additionally, Plumptre admitted she's been overwhelmed by the support shown to her by Nigerians and stated she doesn't take it for granted.

“I'm just so grateful for all the support I've had since I joined the team. Obviously, I've been in the team for about four years now.

“I definitely was welcomed with open arms when I first joined the team and even now, I feel the love from all Nigerian fans.

“So I plead with them to keep supporting us and we'll do as much as we can to bring success to the team,” the versatile defender concluded.
