Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has taken a dramatic step in trying to secure a permanent move away from Napoli, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen has reportedly asked club president Aurelio De Laurentiis to slash his €75 million release clause to €50 million.

This is despite the Nigerian striker having helped agree to the figure himself during a contract extension last year.

The Nigerian striker enjoyed a prolific 2024–25 campaign on loan at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists. His standout performances fired the Turkish giants to a domestic league and cup double, reigniting interest from several top European clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus.

For fans tracking his journey, knowing where to bet online on Nigerian football stars can add extra excitement when following Osimhen and others lighting up European leagues.

Galatasaray are keen to make Osimhen’s stay permanent and have already tabled a lucrative offer that includes a €15 million annual salary and a €10 million commercial deal.

Victor Osimhen: Time to leave Napoli?

However, they are reportedly struggling to meet Napoli’s €75 million valuation and are seeking to negotiate a lower fee, potentially around €60 million, to be paid in three instalments.

According to Sabah via Haber, Osimhen has actively participated in discussions between Galatasaray and Napoli and has urged De Laurentiis to reduce the asking price to €50 million. The striker's direct involvement has added intrigue to the unfolding transfer saga, especially considering his status as a club icon after helping Napoli win their first Serie A title in over three decades in 2023.

Osimhen’s preference is to remain in European football. While Galatasaray remain optimistic and have made him their number one summer target, clubs like Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation closely. The Super Eagles forward reportedly rejected a lucrative approach from Saudi side Al-Hilal to underline his commitment to playing at the highest competitive level.

Napoli are expected to play hardball, but Galatasaray's urgency is growing as they aim to wrap up deals early to strengthen their Champions League campaign. Should the move for Osimhen collapse, Canadian striker Jonathan David is understood to be their backup option, though his high wage demands may present challenges.

Osimhen became the first Nigerian to win the Turkish Super Lig highest goalscorer award after helping himself to 26 league goals this term.
