Man United icon approves Victor Osimhen move and makes bold claim

Nigeria Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has added his voice to the deafening calls urging the Old Trafford giants to sign Victor Osimhen this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, who has a reported €75 million release clause and is demanding hefty wages, will not come cheap.

However, Scholes is convinced that United have a purse large enough to make the deal possible, despite the Red Devils' failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Scholes said:

“I think Osimhen [is free to leave Napoli this summer], it sounds like a doable one. When you talk about financial problems, he could be doable.”

Even more interesting, Scholes also made a bold call for Manchester United to keep Rasmus Hojlund and recruit both Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres this summer in a sensational attacking shake up.

United have already made an attacking addition with Wolves star Matheus Cunha, but fans and pundits alike are calling for more firepower up front.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres have both been heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford, but most experts believe United should choose one of the two and move on from the raw and inconsistent Hojlund.

Scholes, however, disagrees.

“I'd keep [Rasmus] Hojlund. I know he's not been great, but he's a 22-year-old kid playing on his own for Man United the last two years. He's had to play every week, he is the only one,” Scholes argued.

“Man United should have at least three top centre-forwards. I'd have him and Osimhen and Gyokeres.”

Why Manchester United should sign Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres

While Scholes wants all three, Manchester United would be better served focusing their resources on signing Osimhen over Gyokeres—and the reasons stack up.

1. Osimhen is younger than Gyokeres

There’s a common misconception that Gyokeres is the more youthful prospect, having only recently burst onto the scene in Portugal. But in fact, the Swedish forward is six months older than Osimhen, who remains just 26.

2. Proven pedigree at the top level

Osimhen netted 65 goals in 108 Serie A games for Napoli, including firing the club to their first league title in over three decades.

While Gyokeres boasts stunning numbers at Sporting (68 goals in 66 games), he’s done so in Portugal’s less demanding Primeira Liga. It’s a significant jump from dominating in Lisbon to thriving in the Premier League.

3. Premier League-ready profile

Osimhen has all the physical tools to excel in England.

He's a powerful, athletic forward who combines aerial dominance with lightning-quick movement and intelligent finishing. He’s built for battles with Premier League defenders and thrives in tight spaces and high-pressure moments.

4. Mentality and experience under pressure

Gyokeres struggled to make an impact during stints with Brighton and Swansea, while Hojlund — who was prolific at Atalanta — has looked weighed down by expectations at United.

Osimhen, however, has flourished under pressure. He was top scorer in Serie A during Napoli’s historic title-winning season and recently claimed the Golden Boot in Turkey with Galatasaray, becoming the first Nigerian to do so in both leagues.

If United can pull off a deal for Osimhen, it might just be the transformational signing the club needs to restore attacking fear factor at Old Trafford.
