Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika has recovered from the shock of losing his champions tag, following Union Saint-Gilloise’s dramatic Belgian Pro League title win, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onyedika admits his disappointment at missing out on silverware while thanking fans for their unwavering support throughout a rollercoaster campaign.

Brugge had kept their title defence alive until the very last day, reeling off three straight wins to stay within striking distance of Union.

Despite the league heartbreak, Brugge still enjoyed a strong season. They lifted their 12th Belgian Cup title with a thrilling 2-1 win over Anderlecht and reached the Champions League Round of 16, having knocked out Atalanta in the playoffs before falling to Aston Villa.

Onyedika, who played a crucial role in the campaign, featured in 52 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and registering two assists.

His consistency and versatility in midfield earned him a nomination for the 2025 Ebony Shoe Award – given to the best player of African descent in Belgium. However, the honour went to fellow Nigerian Tolu Arokodare, who finished the season as top scorer with 21 goals.

Following the final game, Onyedika took to Instagram to express his feelings:

“Disappointed not to bring the trophy home. Thank you guys for this wonderful season. Your support in rain and sun, at home, far away from home, pushed us to achieve a lot this season.”

Looking ahead, the 23-year-old called on fans to stick with the team as they aim for even greater success:

“Enjoy the holiday and recharge cause we need the same energy to achieve more next season.”

While his message suggests a desire to continue at Brugge, his future remains uncertain. Several European clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation closely and could make a move during the summer transfer window.

The Super Eagles midfielder is currently valued at a career-high €20 million as per Transfermarkt.
