The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed that Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu has been cleared to play for the Super Eagles at the upcoming Unity Cup tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.
In recent months, Agu has been quite vocal about his desire to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite playing for Germany at youth level. According to FIFA rules, the Werder Bremen defender was still eligible for Nigeria, as he had not represented Germany at senior level yet.
Agu got his wish earlier this week , as he was named in Nigeria's 26-man squad for the Unity Cup-a four-nation tournament which begins at the end of the month.

However, as he had not been fully cleared to play for Nigeria, the NFF stated that Agu would only train with the team, but would not be allowed to play.
But the issue has now been dealt with. This is as the NFF have announced that Agu has been cleared to play for Nigeria after getting confirmation from the German FA that he never played for them in an official game at junior or senior level.
“Felix Nnaemeka Agu confirmed ok to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles,” the NFF wrote.
“The German FF have written to confirm that the player has never represented them at any official game at the A and Junior level
“Played only 2 friendly games for the U21 team in 2019. Welcome Felix!

This is a good development for Nigeria, as Agu is a versatile player who can operate on both sides of the defence and in midfield. He is technically gifted and quick.

He will provide some competition for Bruno Onyemaechi and Ola Aina, who are already established Super Eagles players.
Who is Felix Agu?
Felix Agu was born in Osnabruck, Germany in September 27, 1999 to a Nigerian father and a German mother.

Nonetheless, having spent his early years in Germany, he chose to play for the German national team at youth level. The left-back has strong dribbling, agility, balance, and reactions.
Agu represented Germany’s Under-21 team twice in 2019 in unofficial games, but he has not gotten a senior call-up since then.
Now, that the Werder Bremen star has gotten a Super Eagles call-up, he will look to make a big impression.
