Former Italian Serie A champions Juventus have identified Atalanta star Mateo Retegui as a potential attacking option in case their attempt to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli in the summer fails, Soccernet.ng reports.
Juventus have been heavily linked with Osimhen in recent weeks. The Super Eagles star is under contract at Napoli, but he had to leave to join Galatasaray on loan last summer after he fell out with the club. At Galatasaray, he has been a consistent performer, supplying 29 goals and six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

However, Osimhen is expected to leave Galatasaray at the end of the campaign. He has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Premier League, with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United touted as the most likely destinations. But Juventus have also emerged in recent months. The former Serie A will likely let Dusan Vlahovic leave in the summer, and they have been searching for a replacement.
But it is unlikely that Osimhen would prefer a move to Turin, as he has already won the Scudetto with Napoli and their fans, who he has a strong connection with, might be unhappy. Moreover, Napoli would be reluctant to let their star man leave for one of their rivals.
Who is Juventus' alternative for Osimhen?
According to reports from Forza Juventus, the Old Lady have lined up Mateo Retegui as a potential signing if their push to sign Victor Osimhen fails.
The Italian, who is teammates with another Nigerian superstar at Atalanta, has been phenomenal for La Dea this season, contributing 26 goals and six assists in 42 appearances.
He's Italian and has been playing in the Serie A for the past two years, so he will not have an issue adjusting to the Serie A. Also, he comes at a good price, as he is valued at €45 million.
However, Retegui has not proven to be better than Osimhen, so getting him might be a gamble.
