Borussia Dortmund are considering a permanent deal for Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka following his impressive performances since joining the Bundesliga side on loan in January, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 21-year-old moved to Dortmund on a six-month loan for a reported fee of just under €2.5 million—a significant figure considering his limited game time at Chelsea.
Injured at the start of his stint in Germany, Chukwuemeka has quickly caught the eye since returning to fitness, prompting Dortmund officials to explore the option of keeping him beyond the summer.

According to Kicker via 90 min, Dortmund’s purchase clause for the England youth international is set at €30 million—slightly lower than initial estimates of €35 million.
However, any permanent move could depend heavily on the club’s ability to secure UEFA Champions League football next season, either by finishing in the Bundesliga’s top four or winning this year’s competition.

Chukwuemeka, who was developed at Aston Villa’s academy, netted his first goal in a Dortmund shirt last weekend, playing a crucial role in a 4-1 away win against SC Freiburg.
In just 68 minutes, he won more duels (27) than any other player on the pitch—highlighting both his dynamism and tenacity in midfield.

While his future at club level is a topic of growing interest, his international allegiance is also under scrutiny.

Though Chukwuemeka has represented England at every youth level from U17 to U21, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria through his heritage.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is said to be monitoring the midfielder closely ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies. Chukwuemeka is part of a group of England-born talents with Chelsea links being courted by Nigeria, including Tosin Adarabioyo and Faustino Anjorin.

With his market value estimated at €15 million (approx. ₦25.7 billion), Chukwuemeka is fast becoming a player in demand—both for club and country.
Should Dortmund secure Champions League qualification and Nigeria step up their pursuit, the summer could mark a defining moment in the youngster’s career.
