Super Falcons‘ and Everton Women midfielder, Toni Oyedupe Payne, joined Abdoulaye Doucoure in educating children about racism in the United Kingdom, Soccernet.ng reports.

Last week, the Everton duo attended a Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) educational event hosted by the club in the community to raise awareness about racism and anti-racism with school children, alongside leaders of several local unions in the metropolis.

About 90 school pupils were present, and they were allowed to ask the panellists [including Payne and Doucoure] questions, primarily about the common stereotypes and misconceptions that black people are subjected to.

Speaking on the guest panel, Doucoure appreciated the workshop initiative and mentioned the importance of watching out for social vices such as this.

“Education is the key because these children will be adults soon; they could already be online, so it's important for me to be here and help them understand the power of words.

“There were some really intelligent questions today, and I hope they learnt more about how to stand up against racism, about how it can make people feel and to never accept discrimination or any form of abuse. Hopefully, days like today will give them the confidence to report any incidents they see or hear,” the Everton midfielder said in quotes revealed by the club's official website.

Payne was pleased to use her platform to raise awareness for societal issues like racism, which go beyond the length of a football pitch.

“It was fantastic to see the positive work that both SRtRC and EitC are doing to help educate the next generation of children about anti-racism, especially while they’re at such an impressionable age.

“It was a privilege to be able to use my platform to help reinforce the importance of challenging racism and any form of prejudice wherever we see it – whether that’s on or off the pitch. I think everyone in the room really benefitted from today’s event, and it was great to be a part of it,” the Super Falcons midfielder added.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has helped Everton to 15th on the English Premier League table, pushing the Toffees to safety after they were relegation-threatened earlier this season.

Likewise, Payne has helped the Everton Women move up to 7th on the WSL table, although they're currently 20 points off the Champions League qualification spots.
