Umar Sadiq delivered a dazzling performance on Sunday, scoring his first La Liga brace to help Valencia salvage a dramatic 3-3 draw against Osasuna at the Estadio El Sadar, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian striker, on loan from Real Sociedad, made the most of a rare starting opportunity, showing his class with two well-taken goals that left the home side's manager Vicente Moreno singing his praises.

Despite his frustration at Osasuna's failure to hold on to their lead, Moreno could not help but acknowledge Sadiq's late equaliser.

“It was a stroke of genius from Umar, in the end you can do little,” the Osasuna boss said as per Marca.

Umar Sadiq seizes his chance

With first-choice striker Hugo Duro struggling with fitness issues, Valencia boss Carlos Corberán handed Sadiq a place in the starting line-up – and the 28-year-old repaid that faith in style.

The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute through Diego Lopez, who finished off a smart assist from Luis Rioja. But Osasuna hit back through Aimar Oroz 12 minutes later to level the score.

Sadiq restored Valencia's advantage just six minutes after Oroz's strike. The Super Eagles forward showed his poacher's instinct, squeezing between two Osasuna defenders to convert a low cross with a composed finish.

However, defensive lapses from Los Ches allowed Osasuna to flip the game on its head before the break. Oroz grabbed his second of the afternoon before Ante Budimir's strike made it 3-2 at half-time.

The second half saw Valencia chasing the game, but chances were few and far between. It took until the 85th minute for Sadiq to conjure up a moment of magic.

Latching onto a low cross from Sergi Canos with his back to goal, Sadiq produced an audacious flick that sent the ball spinning into the far corner – a finish that left the Osasuna defence and their manager in disbelief.

“In the second half, Osasuna did not know how to play with the score in their favour,” Moreno admitted.

‘We were not calm or patient enough to create our plays. This haste made Valencia grow, and with a stroke of genius from Sadiq, they tied the game.”

Sunday's brace took Sadiq's tally to four goals for the season, offering a timely reminder of his quality.

Valencia coach Carlos Corberán was quick to praise the Nigerian's contribution.

“Sadiq arrived very committed and eager to work,” Corberán said.

“We are going to give him the confidence he needs to continue helping the team.”

However, Corberán also pointed out the need for defensive improvement.

“Scoring three goals is nice, but conceding three is less nice. To win, we had to be more defensively strong. Attacking doesn't stop you from defending better at many moments of the game.”

Sadiq's loan spell at Valencia from Real Sociedad runs until the end of the season, and performances like Sunday's will only strengthen his case for a more prominent role in Corberán's plans.

With Duro still battling fitness issues, the Nigerian forward has the perfect platform to prove he can be more than just a temporary solution – he could be the key to Valencia's push for European qualification.

If Sadiq can maintain this momentum, there may be more moments of genius to come.
