The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reportedly begun efforts to assist the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in securing the international commitment of Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder, who has been making waves under Mikel Arteta, remains eligible to play for both Nigeria and England.

Despite representing England at various youth levels, Nwaneri has not yet committed to the senior team, which leaves the door open for a potential switch to the Super Eagles or the Flying Eagles.

As recently reported by Soccernet.ng Nwaneri will play for the first country that formally approaches him, which puts the Nigerian football body on high alert.

In response, Nigerian Journalist and Football Administrator, Tobi Adepoju, has shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, that the NSC has now stepped in to support efforts to convince the youngster to choose Nigeria.

BREAKING!!!

Good news

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has revealed that it has already started moves to help the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secure the services of Arsenal star, Ethan Nwaner.

Next step, we go enter Emirates. We need to have that dinner.

Should Nwaneri opt for the Super Eagles, he would join a growing list of England-born players, including Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey and a host of others, who have all embraced their Nigerian heritage at the international level.

With Nigeria keen on securing one of Arsenal’s brightest young talents, the race is on to see whether the NFF’s efforts—now backed by the NSC—will be enough to convince Nwaneri to wear the green and white jersey.

This season, Nwaneri has scored eight goals in 27 appearances which includes two goals in the UEFA Champions League. He his another talent that will bolster the Super Eagles squad in the nearest future should he pledge allegiance to play for Nigeria.
