Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is set to return to training at AC Milan next week following a hamstring injury he sustained last December, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chukwueze has had an average season with AC Milan, registering three goals and one assist in 22 appearances. But most of his appearances have been off the bench, as he has had to play second-fiddle to Christian Pulisic.
Nonetheless, he has been linked with clubs abroad, including Arsenal. Unfortunately, he sustained a hamstring injury on December 29. That effectively shelved any possibility of an exit, as no club would sign an injured player.
The injury was supposed to keep Chukwueze out of action for up to a month. He is expected to return to start playing in early February.
According to Sempre Milan, the Super Eagles star’s recovery is going on as planned. Chukwueze is expected to return to light training next week before joining the rest of the team by the end of January.
Chukwueze will likely return to action in time for the Milan derby at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on February 2. It will be a fresh start for the 25-year-old winger, as he will be working under the new coach Sergio Conceicao.
Chukwueze must prove he deserves a starting shirt with the Portuguese tactician now in charge. If Chukwueze’s game time does not improve in the coming weeks, he may consider leaving during the summer transfer window.
