“I can learn from Drogba and Ronaldo” – 11-goal Ligue 1 Nigerian striker reflects on Osimhen’s role model

Nigerian striker taking Ligue 1 by storm with 11 goals this season, Akor Adams, has opened up about the footballing greats who inspired him during his journey,Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles eligible forward, who John Utaka was said to have played a key role on his move from Lillestrom to Montpellier have also looked up to other players when he was quite young.

Adams reflected on his early influences, mentioning how limited access to European football in Nigeria shaped his admiration for Didier Drogba and Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima.

“I remember that we could only watch UEFA Champions League games and the English Premier League back then in Nigeria, but I watched lots of video clips of Didier Drogba,” Adams said. “And when I came to Norway in my early years, I got to know more about Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, and I watched lots of his video clips too, knowing that we have lots of similarities – big, strong, fast, and good on the ball.”

It is well known that Victor Osimhen has long admired Didier Drogba and remains a big fan of the former Chelsea striker, both from his youth and even to this day.

The 23-year-old Adams  who has been compared to Napoli star Victor Osimhen for his physical dominance and goal-scoring prowess reveals how he wants to tailor his playin style alongside Drogba and Ronaldo.

“These are the two footballers I really want to tailor my trade after. I also have my abilities, but I think I can learn a lot from Drogba and Ronaldo.” he added.

The Montpellier star has quickly emerged as one of Nigeria’s most exciting forwards, and following his impressive start to life in France he was on the verge of being called up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
