Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface remains sidelined for Bayer Leverkusen following an injury he sustained while on international duty for Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface, who played the full 90 minutes for Augustine Eguavoen’s side in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations clash against Rwanda, reportedly suffered a thigh muscle tear.
The injury has left Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso in a challenging position ahead of a demanding festive fixture schedule.
However, a recent photo shared on Boniface’s Instagram account has raised questions about whether the Nigerian forward has resumed training. In the image, Boniface appears to be kicking a ball, sparking speculation about his recovery progress.

Yet, German outlet Bild has clarified that the photo is an old one, confirming that Boniface is still undergoing rehabilitation. While his return timeline remains uncertain, it is unclear if he will be fit enough to rejoin the squad before Christmas.
Coach Alonso earlier expressed hope for Boniface’s swift recovery, downplaying the severity of the injury.
“It’s a shame, he has a small injury in his thigh muscles,” Alonso said. “We hope he can still play this year. We have to wait and see – but it won’t be for six to eight weeks.”
Boniface’s absence is a significant blow for Bayer Leverkusen as the team prepares for high-stakes clashes against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan before the year ends. Alonso will be hoping his star striker can recover in time to bolster their attack during this crucial period.
