Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho scored his third goal for Sevilla FC during their Copa del Rey clash against Olot, Soccernet.ng reports.
In the 73rd minute, Iheanacho latched onto Stanis Idumbo’s pass to extend Los Nervionenses’ lead to three goals before Oriol Ayala pulled one back. This victory potentially sets up Sevilla for a clash with Betis in the round of 16.
Since his summer move from England, Iheanacho has yet to score a league goal for Sevilla. However, he has been prolific in the Copa del Rey, netting three goals in just two appearances in the competition.
This mirrors his time at Leicester City, where he was not always consistent in the Premier League but was exceptional in the FA Cup.
The Nigeria international scored 18 goals in 25 FA Cup appearances, surpassing Harry Kane’s 17 goals to become the top-scoring active player in the tournament before leaving England.
Remarkably, Iheanacho’s 18 FA Cup goals place him among the top 12 all-time scorers in the competition, with the players above him having all retired from professional football.
In Spain, expectations are high that Iheanacho will maintain this momentum. However, time will tell as he continues working hard to secure a regular starting spot under Garcia Pimienta.
