Former England and Real Madrid forward, Michael Owen, has revealed that Brentford's opening goal against Fulham last night was due to an error from Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey, Soccernet.ng reports.
Fulham welcomed Brentford to the Craven Cottage last night to wrap up Matchday ten of the English Premier League.
Super Eagles duo, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi made their tenth consecutive Premier League start for the Fulham, but it was Emile Smith Rowe and Raúl Jiménez who had their efforts thwarted consecutively by the Brentford defence in the opening twenty minutes.
Four minutes later, the away side scored. Calvin Bassey's misplaced pass led to a quick exchange of passes between the Brentford players before Norgaard found Vitaly Janelt in space. The German midfielder shot from about twenty-five yards out, beyond Bernd Leno to give Thomas Frank's side the lead, and Owen blamed Bassey.
“Nobody was closing him down, and of course as I said Bassey probably made the poor touch to start with to give the ball away. He found that little bit of space and some managers like encouraging their team to strike the ball from outside the box,” the one-time Ballon d'Or winner said as per Premier League Productions.
Fulham had the last laugh on the night. Welsh midfielder, Harry Wilson, equalised in the 92nd minute, flicking on a cross from Adams traore, beyond the reach of Mark Flekken.
Wilson gave the Cottagers a memory for the ages five minutes later when he headed home from an Antonee Robinson cross with just seconds left to spare on the clock, sealing three points for Marco Silva's side.
