French Ligue 1 club Lyon could offload Nigerian striker Gift Orban in January due to his failure to impress at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Orban joined Lyon in January following an impressive start to life at Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Gent. The Nigeria striker had impressed in Belgium, producing 32 goals and two assists in 52 appearances. So, Lyon acquired his services with the hope that he would aid their Ligue 1 survival battle.
However, the transfer has not worked as both parties would have hoped. Orban has registered only 21 appearances for Lyon since last season, and he has just five goals to show for it.
This season, he has been a peripheral player under Pierre Sage, who took over last summer. And it doesn’t seem like his fortunes would improve soon.
Now, according to L1 Insider, Lyon are considering offloading Orban. The Nigerian striker is worth €15 million, but it is unlikely that they will get an outright buyer in January.
Some mid-table Ligue 1 clubs may move form him, but they would be looking to take him up on a loan deal.
Nonetheless, if Orban can get some playing time just before the turn of the year, they could decided to keep him till the end of the season.
