Nigerian forward Gift Orban could be on his way back to the Italian Serie A this summer amid interest from newly-promoted side Venezia ahead of the transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.
Orban was once one of Europe's most exciting young talents, but a series of unsuccessful moves in recent years have prevented him from building on the promise he showed earlier in his career.
The 23-year-old joined Hellas Verona on loan from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim last summer in a bid to revive his career. He quickly became an important player for the Italian club, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 28 appearances during a difficult campaign.
His performances made him one of Verona's standout players, and for much of the season it appeared the club would look to make his move permanent, especially if they secured their Serie A status.

However, Orban's future at the club took a dramatic turn in April when he was involved in a physical altercation with a fan following Verona's 1-0 defeat to AC Milan. The incident required intervention from club officials and led to the Nigerian being left out of the club’s final five league matches.
Verona were eventually relegated from the top flight, while the controversy also ended any hopes of a permanent stay for the Super Eagles invitee, although he could soon be on his way back to the league.
Venezia considering summer move for Gift Orban
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, newly promoted Serie A side Venezia are weighing up a move for Gift Orban as they strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The Winged Lions secured an immediate return to Italy's top division after spending just one season in Serie B following their relegation in the 2024-25 campaign. Venezia finished top of the second division last season and are determined to avoid another instant relegation.

Their interest in Orban is driven by his impressive displays for Hellas Verona last season and the Nigerian forward is seen as a major upgrade that can help the team, although he would need to work on his behaviours on and off the pitch.
A move to Venezia would also provide Orban with the fresh start he needs after his difficult exit from Verona. Meanwhile, it would also offer him an exit from Hoffenheim, where he currently finds himself surplus to requirements and faces an uncertain future in Germany.
The Nigerian is valued at around €7 million according to Transfermarkt, although Hoffenheim have yet to set an official asking price for any potential transfer this summer and could be open to another loan move or a permanent deal.

The Super Eagles invitee will be also open to a move which would offer him regular playing time next season,. However, Venezia must first reach an agreement with Hoffenheim, although negotiations are not expected to be complicated given the Bundesliga club's desire to allow the Nigerian forward leave the club.
If the move goes through, Orban will be hoping for a fresh start that could help him regain his confidence, and put himself in contention for a return to the Super Eagles setup under Eric Chelle for the first time since his only invitation in 2023.
