Most expensive in history! Trabzonspor return with record bid for Southampton’s Paul Onuachu

Still the number one admirer of Paul Onuachu, Trabzonspor have made another offer for the Southampton forward, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigeria international impressed during his loan spell with Trabzonspor last season, and the club is keen to bring him back permanently.

According to a report by Turkish publication Haber Anlik, Trabzonspor have bid €7.5m for Onuachu as they continue their search for a centre forward.

This offer is the highest-ever Trabzonspor have made for a player, surpassing the €6.90m paid for Ghana's Majeed Waris in 2014 and the €6.20m for Turkey's Gökhan Ünal in 2008.

If the deal goes through, Onuachu will become the most expensive signing in Trabzonspor history. This significant bid reflects the belief Trabzonspor have in Onuachu, who is also eager to return to the Turkish side on a permanent basis.

However, the offer may still not be enough as Southampton are reportedly asking for €10m. Trabzonspor are awaiting a response from the Premier League club regarding their latest bid.

Initially, Trabzonspor sought to loan the Nigerian with an option to buy next summer, but Southampton are only interested in a permanent deal.

If the situation with the 30-year-old drags on, Trabzonspor have a backup plan in Burnley forward Wout Weghorst.

The Dutchman has been strongly linked with a move away from Turf Moor this summer, and Trabzonspor have been making concrete steps to sign him.

Onuachu made 25 appearances for Trabzonspor last season, scoring an impressive 17 goals. The former KRC Genk star is contracted to Southampton until June 2026.
