Afrobeat superstar, Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, has revealed her intention to start a Nigerian women’s football team, Soccernet.ng reports.
Tems, who recently released an album titled “Born in the Wild,” has achieved the highest feat for any Nigerian musician by winning a Grammy Award for her feature on “Wait 4 U” by Future, which also features Drake.
On the podcast show “Is This Seat Taken” by Chinasa Anukam, the Nigerian artist expressed her love for sports beyond her well-known music career.
“I love sports. I love… not sports sports… but if I could play football, I would. I’m like a football [fan],” she told Chinasa.
During the interview, Tems further revealed her intention to establish a women’s football club and participate in local tournaments, which she believes would significantly boost the Nigerian women’s league.
“I want to start a female football team. I think it is something that is needed. Like, why can’t we just have something like a local tournament with the girls? I feel like it would be fun,” she added.
