Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella inched closer to winning their first Bundesliga title following Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 win at Union Berlin’s Alte Försterei Stadion on Saturday.
Die Werkself increased their lead on top of the table to 16 points as Bayern Munich lost 3-2 at Heidenheim.
Tella started the game following his last assist for Patrik Schick’s winner against Hoffenheim last weekend while Boniface started on the bench. The striker, who was injured for the first quarter of the year, came on in the 67th minute for Borja Iglesias.
Leverkusen scored their lone goal via a Florian Wirtz penalty in first half added on time as Robin Gosens received second yellow card for a foul in the box.
They have now gone 41 matches unbeaten. Leverkusen will next host Werder Bremen on Sunday. A win will secure them their first Bundesliga title.
