Why Victor Boniface could stay at Bayer Leverkusen despite interest from Chelsea and Arsenal

Why Victor Boniface could stay at Bayer Leverkusen despite interest from Chelsea and Arsenal

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is set to remain at Bayer Leverkusen in the summer despite transfer links to Premier League clubs Chelsea and Arsenal, Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen since his €20.5 million transfer from Belgian club Royale Union SG. He was quite impressive in Belgium, but he has hit a whole new level under the tutelage of former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.

Boniface has registered 16 goals and nine assists in 23 appearances across all competitions for Die Werkself, playing a big part in their success this season.

The club remains unbeaten in Europe. They sit comfortably on top of the Bundesliga, ten points above second-placed Bayern Munich, and they are in the semifinal of the Europa Cup.

Some of Bayer Leverkusen's players have been targeted by some of the top teams in Europe. For example, Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping tabs on Jeremie Frimpong, Barcelona and Real Madrid are watching Alejandro Grimaldo, and Bayern Munich could move for Florian Wirtz.

The manager, Alonso, is also a target for Bayern and Liverpool, while Arsenal and Chelsea may try to sign Boniface, as he is valued at €40 million, according to Transfermarkt.

However, Alonso's situation has been on the front burner recently, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich looking for a new coach. However, his position seems to be sorted ahead of next season, as reports suggest that he will remain at the club for at least the next year.

If Alonso had decided to leave at the end of the season, it could have signaled an exodus of some of Bayer Leverkusen's top players.

But since he has decided to remain at the club, some of the players may decide to remain. This is because he recruited most of them. Under his watch, important players like Grimaldo, Granit Xhaka, Boniface, and Nathan Tella joined the club. Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba have also grown under his watch.

With Alonso's decision to stay, Boniface would likely remain at Leverkusen this season, except if a big offer arrives.
