The Box2Box academy product joined Viktoria Plzeň at the start of 2023, and he is set to swap teams again as 2024 approaches
Viktoria Plzeň striker Rafiu Durosinmi is close to completing a move from the Czech Fortuna League to the German Bundesliga as he is set to become Eintracht Frankfurt’s newest striker this winter, Soccernet.ng reports.
While there are no official confirmations yet from Viktoria Plzeň and Frankfurt, renowned German news outlet BILD (via Transfermarkt) asserts that Eintracht Frankfurt has secured a €9 million (approx. N9 billion) deal for Durosinmi.
Durosinmi is reportedly scheduled to land in Germany on Thursday, where he will undergo a medical examination.
Durosinmi will look to follow in the footsteps of legendary Super Eagles playmaker Austin Okocha, who enjoyed an unforgettable spell at Frankfurt in the early 1990s.
The €9m transfer fee places Durosinmi among the top ten players ever sold by a Czech club, with the current record held by Tomas Soucek. Soucek’s transfer to West Ham United from Slavia Prague in July 2020 amounted to €16.2m.
The 20-year-old Nigerian forward showcased promise at Viktoria Plzeň, tallying six goals and six assists in eleven Fortuna Liga matches until a knee injury disrupted his breakthrough season.
Durosinmi’s noteworthy performances extended to the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds, where he netted three goals in six games.
Frankfurt will hope the youngster adapts quickly to the rigours of the Bundesliga the way compatriot Victor Boniface has done for Bayer Leverkusen.
