The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria secured their last World Cup trophy in 2015, and are yet to achieve that height since then
Former Golden Eaglets midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali, took a trip down memory lane as he reflected on Nigeria’s U-17 squad securing their fourth World Cup youth championship trophy in 2015, Soccernet.ng reports.
The G.D Chaves midfielder shared his nostalgia on Instagram, emphasizing the significance of the victory and the cherished memories associated with it.
Nwakali captained the team, playing a pivotal role under the management of Emmanuel Amunike during the tournament.
Acknowledging his contributions, Nwakali was honored with the Golden Ball for his exceptional performance, tallying three goals and three assists throughout the competition.
In a throwback post on social media, Nwakali shared a picture from the event, captioning it with heartfelt words: “On this day 2015 we won the u17 in Chile for Nigeria, good memories to always remember.”
The 2015 U-17 squad also featured Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who played a crucial role, scoring in every game, including a memorable hat-trick against Australia.
Osimhen’s outstanding performance resulted in 10 goals and two assists, earning him both the Golden Boot and the Silver Ball.
Several members of the 2015 U-17 set, such as Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze (now with AC Milan), continue to excel at their respective clubs. Osimhen notably clinched the Serie A top scorer award for the 2022-23 season.
