Former AC Milan goalkeeper, Mario Ielpo, has expressed his high hopes for Samuel Chukwueze’s impact in Serie A during the upcoming season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian winger was signed by Milan in a €28 million deal from Villarreal in July and is expected to take up a key position on the right flank of the team’s attack.
Milan has been busy with several new signings this summer, including Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea, Yunus Musah from Valencia, Tijjani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar, and Noah Okafor from RB Salzburg.
Among these acquisitions, it is the addition of Chukwueze that excites Ielpo the most, as he believes the young talent could be a formidable force, tormenting Serie A defenders.
When asked by IlMilanNews which signing holds the highest expectations, Ielpo responded, “I mention two. I count a lot on Pulisic, who I really like, and on Chukwueze: in my opinion, he is devastating for Serie A.”
Speaking about Milan’s overall transfer activity, Ielpo considers the Rossoneri a complete squad.
However, he believes they still need a noteworthy replacement for Theo Hernandez and at least one more centre-back.
Additionally, if there are exits in the midfield, he expects another midfielder to be brought in. For now, though, the priority is to trim the squad.
As for the team’s seasonal goals, Ielpo emphasizes that qualifying for the Champions League is an absolute must, primarily for economic reasons.
Beyond that, he also mentions aiming for the Scudetto (Serie A title) and at least reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, highlighting the team’s formidable offensive potential.
Chukwueze’s track record speaks for itself, having played a crucial role in Villarreal’s Europa League triumph in 2021.
Last season, he scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists for the Spanish club, showcasing his attacking prowess and potential to be a game-changer for AC Milan in the upcoming Serie A campaign.
