Victor Osimhen is one of the most-rated strikers in World football after a remarkable season with Napoli that saw him emerge as the Serie A top-scorer
Arsenal Sporting director, Edu Gaspar, has contacted Napoli over the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Premier League side is reportedly looking to bring in a world-class striker in January next year.
Their squad last campaign had to share the goals throughout, with the burden mostly on the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus who was out of the squad for some parts of the campaign due to an injury.
Arsenal are aiming to continue their title challenges with Manchester City in the years to come, and want to bring in a reliable number 9 that can guarantee goals for them in all competitions they play in.
It has now been reported that Arsenal sporting director has contacted the President of the Serie A club, Aurelio De Laurentiis, to ask about the availability of Osimhen, having been encouraged by the 24-year-old’s agent, Roberto Calenda, as reported by FootballTransfers.
The Nigerian International, whose current contract with the Serie A champions expires in 2025, is reportedly unwilling to commit to more years with the Italian club.
But he has remained at Napoli, where there has been consistent interest from Saudi Arabia for the signature of the Nigerian striker.
Osimhen had previously admitted that he had been in touch with Arsenal over a possible move when he was a youngster.
The Super Eagles striker registered his 100th club goal last weekend in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Sassuolo in Serie A. The Nigerian has scored 62 goals in 103 for Serie A champions, with a career-best of 31 in 39 games last season.
