The youngster is one of Nigeria’s most sought-after attackers in Europe after a scintillating last six months
French Ligue 1 campaigners Lille are on the brink of securing a deal with KAA Gent’s highly regarded forward, Gift Orban, Soccernet.ng understands.
The potential agreement comes as Lille seek to bolster their attacking options following the anticipated departure of their star striker, Jonathan David. David notched an impressive 24 goals during the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season, propelling Lille to a fifth-place finish.
With David expected to move out of France during this transfer window, Lille have reportedly identified Orban as their primary target to fill the void left by the Canadian dynamo.
And according to reports from reputable outlet Foot Mercato, Lille are edging closer to reaching an agreement with Orban’s representatives.
The negotiations with Gent are slated to commence once David’s departure is finalised.
If all goes well, Orban will make his second transfer of the year, having joined Gent from Stabaek in January.
The young Nigerian talent has been exceptional in front of goal, grabbing 20 goals in 22 appearances since his move. It is not surprising that his brilliance has garnered significant attention from numerous clubs across Europe.
At just 23 years old, Orban’s talent has been recognized by the market, valuing him as Nigeria’s most valuable player under the age of 23, with a price tag of €20 million.
