“Premier League club offered Ajax ₦12billion for Bassey” – Dutch journalist

Ajax signed Bassey for €23million last summer, and they want to make profit if they eventually sell him

Dutch journalist Mark Verweij has revealed that a Premier League club wanted to sign Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey for €23million(₦12billion) in January, but they refused to sell Soccernet.ng reports.

After an impressive two-year stay at Rangers, Ajax swooped in for Bassey last summer in a deal worth €23million.

However, things has not exactly panned out nicely for the former Leicester City man. Bassey has struggled to make an impact at Amsterdam, with the club sitting third in the Eredivisie.

Ex-Ajax players have repeatedly taken digs at Bassey this season for his inability to use the ball properly.

Nonetheless, a Dutch journalist Verweij per Vandaaginside reports that the Nigerian defender has attracted interest from clubs abroad. A Premier League club offered Ajax €23million in January, but they refused to sell and demanded €40millon before letting Bassey leave.

“I heard to my dumb surprise that a bid of 23 million euros had come in for Calvin Bassey from the Premier League,” Verweij said.

“However, some people thought that he could be sold for 40 million euros.”

Bassey is young and he can still improve with time. Ajax are a selling club, and they would look to make a huge profit from a furture sale.
