Osimhen was caged against Lazio last time, but Lookman and his teammates could not stop the masked talisman this time
Super Eagles strikers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman squared off against each other in Serie A, but it was the former who made his impact felt, as he assisted Napoli’s first goal in their 2-0 victory over Atalanta.
Napoli’s push for the Scudetto hit a snag after their 1-0 loss to Lazio last week. However, they were looking to pick up the pieces and continue. They welcomed Atalanta to the Stadio Diego Amando Maradona in Naples.
Nigerian striker Osimhen was caged when Lazio came visiting last week and he was looking to return to the scoresheet. Meanwhile, his compatriot in Atalanta colors Lookman was looking to score his first goal since the 28th of January albeit he had to start from the bench.
After a goalless first half, the game sparked to life in the second. Napoli took the lead, and the masked marksman was heavily involved. His famous partnership with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came to play, as he supplied the assist to the Georgian star, who scored a beautiful goal to give Napoli the lead by the stroke of the hour. Amir Rrahmani then doubled the lead for the Partenopei 17 minutes later to ensure they ran out with the 2-0 win.
Lookman got just two minutes of play, as he was introduced in the 88th minute.
The win gives Napoli an 18-point lead at the summit of the Serie A, and they just seven wins out of their remaining twelve games to seal the Scudetto.
