The Super Eagles hopeful has been given an extension that may keep him at Riverside Stadium beyond June 2024.

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that the club would offer Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom a new contract extension in the face of interest from a number of English teams.

In a post-match press conference, the former Manchester United icon said that the club is not prepared to lose its star player during the winter transfer window.

Chuba Akpom’s outstanding record during the most recent season under the English management cannot be exaggerated. The striker has surely made headlines with his remarkable performance under Carrick’s guidance, netting 13 goals in 19 outings.

However, soccernet.ng previously reported that his strong performance has piqued the interest of Premier League teams like Everton, Southampton, and others who may battle for the former Arsenal player’s signature during the winter transfer window in order to improve their roster.

Meanwhile, the BBC has revealed that the North Yorkshire side has proposed a 12-month contract extension option for the striker, which has been confirmed by the British Manager, in order to keep the player at the Riverside Stadium a bit longer.

The manager made it plain that he comprehends the nature of football, but the club desires to keep its players, including the club’s 2022-23 top scorer, Akpom.

“You know, when players perform well when you do well as a team in the division, clubs go outside and attempt to improve their squads and teams, so that is the nature of it.

We obviously do not want to lose our best players because we believe we are on the right direction, but that is football, you know, football, everyone’s trying to improve, and that is exactly what we are doing.” Carrick said.

Akpom, who switched his international allegiance to Nigeria after he represented England at age-grade levels has a contract with Boro that runs until the summer of 2024.
