The Nigeria international was in the thick of the action as the Goddess completely outclassed Salernitana on Sunday
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman had an evening to remember forever as his brilliance was key to Atalanta completing a superb 8-2 demolition job over Salernitana in a Serie A matchday 18 clash at the Gewiss Stadium.
After missing Atalanta’s win at Bologna last week as he was left on the bench for the entire duration of the game, Lookman returned to the Blue-and-Blacks starting lineup against Salernitana.
The Nigeria international had reminded manager Gian Piero Gasperini of his natural attacking abilities in a midweek friendly against Mopella, where he netted a brace in the 8-0 destruction of the lowly side.
And Lookman was back at it again with his first competitive brace since moving to the Italian top-flight in the summer as Atalanta crushed their visitors on Sunday.
Lookman’s first goal arrived in the 20th minute to restore Atalanta’s lead after Salernitana’s Boulaye Dia had cancelled out Jeremie Boga’s opener for the hosts.
The former Leicester City loanee bagged his second of the evening to make the scoreline 6-1 ten minutes after the break, pouncing on a pass from Boga.
Lookman claimed an assist shortly after, setting up Ederson to make it 7-2 for the home side before Nadir Zortea completed the rout five minutes before time.
It is the first time in over thirty years that Atalanta will score eight goals in a single Serie A match.
Lookman’s double sends his tally for the season to nine goals, with only compatriot Napoli’s Victor Osimhen with more (12).
